    Doggie diet--oh noooo!

The news at the vet was good and bad yesterday. Good that heartworms are all gone, but BAD that Jack has gained 15 pounds since he started the treatment in January! We can mostly blame the fact that he took steroids for two months as part of his treatment and didn't get any exercise. The steroids made him ravenous and we had quite a few incidents of counter surfing and stealing food (I know, my fault). I also am very bad about sharing table food with my kids--just a few tiny bites, I promise.
I've always done this and none of my dogs have ever been overweight.

Anyway, the vet said that I should go by the instructions on the bag of his food (I feed him Orijen Six Fish), and feed him the amount recommended for a 60 lb. dog. He now weighs 85lbs. He can quit dieting when his weight reaches 70 lbs. Poor Jack. I told him I would go on a diet with him. I could stand to lose 15 myself.

Does anyone have experience with dog diets? Jack should especially not be overweight because of the issues with his hips.

    YES!!! I Do!!! Me, Me!!!

Does he like green beans? When I got Mandy to lose over 10lb in 3 months it was because I fed her half kibble and half green beans. The weight fell off her.

Another good one is vegas stew, I will tag Cheryl as she has not put it on here I don't think.

I have had to be on steroids every so often, it does put the weight on! The good thing(only) is it puffs my face up and takes the wrinkles out! Poor Jack-I knew the green beans were coming.......yeah, I guess I need the beans, too.
