Anyone ever feed Wysong Epigen (formerly Au Jus)?

I normally feed a raw diet but have had issues with getting my food from the distributor by times. And to make matters worse, my dog is really intolerant to or has allergy issues with many proteins and ingredients so I have to be really careful with what I give her. Wysong Epigen is one of the only readily available foods I've found that has no extra ingredients and that comes in rabbit and duck, but I can't find any decent reviews of it.

Anyone use it on a regular basis and have any thoughts on it?

Yes. The old version (Au Jus) has been discontinued and the ratings are no longer available, and the new version gets 3 stars because it's a meat-only food intended to be fed supplementally. But that's kind of unfair because there are some people who feed a prey model diet and supplement themselves. That's me. I need to know if the meat itself is high quality. I can - and do - supplement with veggies that my dog can tolerate and that don't aggravate her yeast. I just want to make sure I'm not feeding roadkill or sick animals.

I have been looking into this food for you and I am not seeing anything I would consider fantastic by looking at the ingredients, especially for an allergy-prone frenchie. Sorry....

I have a friend on the other English Bulldog site who has a bulldog with such severe allergies she got horrible skin infections. Finally after so many tests, trials, and more they put her on the "base mix" of dehydrated food by Honest Kitchen. Once she was healed they started introducing different proteins to her- just home cooked proteins. This worked for them and she had probably one of the most severe cases of allergies.

Thanks so much, @[replacer_a]. You are totally awesome! I've looked into Honest Kitchen before and I would love to use their stuff, but it's all got peas in it and we cannot do peas or any other legume. Her little face swells up with hives - it's awful. I'm totally bumming about Wysong now because she's doing really well on it and I actually just recommended it to someone on the other board. I should really just email Vital Essentials and tell them that they're going to lose a reliable customer because of their poor distribution. Back to the drawing board. *sigh* What did people do before the internet?????

If she is doing well on it then I wouldn't change it- sometimes what works isn't always the best of the best. You are right so many of the best foods use peas as a protein source. Which one is she eating right now?

Re: Anyone ever feed Wysong Epigen (formerly Au Jus)?

I'm using the canned Epigen Rabbit Formula which is rabbit, water, guar gum (not crazy about that, but perfection is the enemy of good), and mixed tocopherols. I also ordered some of their Archetype Rabbit freeze-dried yesterday to mix in since the canned formula isn't considered to be complete, and also because we're going to be traveling later this month and I'd rather have a dehydrated food with us as opposed to a canned one. Their freeze-dried formula has some fruits and veggies in it that could very well aggravate her yeast, so we'll see. We're getting a freezer later this month so I can order large quantities of fresh rabbit to feed, but there are times when I need a filler or buffer and I was hoping this would be it. It's so hard to find limited-ingredient or single-ingredient proteins that she can tolerate.

I think this is a great plan, and if it's working keep going on it. I did not see their freeze dried selections, I only looked at the kibbles.

Thanks, @[replacer_a]. You're very wise, so I feel a little better going forward now

Today was our first morning testing the freeze-dried stuff. I sent her off to daycare, so if the wheels come off the bus it's their problem. LOL. Kind of.
